Supporting nursing and midwifery students in Nablus
In response to a request from An Najah National University we have started a campaign to support students
of Nursing and Midwifery in Nablus.
They will be essential for the new teaching hospital in Nablus.
There is a growing need for specialist medical services in Palestine
which currently lacks some of the more advanced treatments.
Many patients have to travel abroad which delays treatment
and is very expensive for them, their families and the Palestinian economy.
As part of their strategic planning, to encourage more young Palestinians,
both male and female, to choose nursing as a career
the Nursing Department at An-Najah National University in Nablus
has asked FONSA to support this initiative.
We wish to help fund both existing students who are training to be
professional nurses and midwives and those who wish to enrol in the future.
We select the students in co-operation with the Nursing Department,
based on two criteria:
the marks in their school leaving exams (ie like our A level, called in Palestine the tawjihi)
and their financial need.
And in a short time we have made a start:
Muhammad Yusef, Madlin, Dua, Iman
have now all started their nursing studies as part of our project.
How much does it cost?
Each nurse or midwife studies two semesters a year for four years.
At £550 per semester (including registration fees) the whole course costs £4,200.
How can I help?
You can contribute directly to sponsor a student.
Or you can raise money for this project through a fundraising event.
However much you can give or fundraise will enable us to sponsor these needy students.
